“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”
― Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven
About Our Site
Bloodcurdling books, nightmarish novels, and terrifying tomes abound.
Here at Night Terror Novels, we aim to provide fresh horror content of all forms and flavours, to cater to every taste. Whether you seek tales of ghosts or ghouls, bloodsuckers or wolfmen; from Victorian haunts to hardcore splatterpunk, genre-defying transgressive fiction and everything else you can imagine in between. On this site, we strive to run the gamut of all that is mysterious and macabre, through both our original articles and our own publications. Currently, we are aiming to offer you (somewhat) informative and (wholly) subjective reviews of films and novels within the horror genre (and indeed beyond it), in addition to the odd ghoulish list feature, indie author spotlights, and a variety of original flash fiction pieces.
We will often have open calls for submissions to our various anthologies, and will be opening up for submissions of longer projects in the very near future, so keep an eye, or two, or three, on this space.
We do hope you’ll stay for a spell …
About Us
Greetings, boils, ghouls, and other assorted creatures of the night!
I’m Josh, the owner and founder of Night Terror Novels and Night Terror Novels Publishing. Welcome to our little family. Get yourself nice and settled, because you’re here to stay now. I hope that you’ll enjoy your time perusing our humble site. Before anything else though, here’s a bit about me. Don’t worry, I promise to try and keep this short and sweet.
So, I’ve been a fan of the horror genre for about as long as I can remember. My introduction to it was pretty unremarkable, and probably came about in much the same way as it did for anyone – with the stumbling upon of that first spooky story that just begged to be read, or catching a horror movie on television and watching through your fingers… before having to flick the channel over to alleviate the growing, gnawing fear.
For me, the seeds of my passion for this genre were planted by seeing snippets from films my parents would be watching, and with catching snatches of scary scenes from the horror movies that occasionally cropped up on Film4 now and again. It was after picking up copies of Stephen King’s It and The Shining from a second-hand bookshop in Alnwick, many a year ago now, that my love for all things horror was truly cemented though.
I’ve recently started writing and submitting fiction of my own. My debut short story, titled Krodha, can be found in the Wild Violence anthology from fellow indie horror publisher Blood Rites Horror, and my debut novella, titled Maggot Brain, is coming soon from us here at Night Terror Novels Publishing, the details for which can be found here.
So, what exactly is this site? First and foremost, I hope for it to provide a new place for fellow, like-minded gore hounds to share and celebrate our love of all things ghastly and spooky. Night Terror Novels officially entered the world of publishing in October 2021 with our debut anthology, Ceci n’est pas une histoire d’horreur (This is Not a Horror Story). You can find all the details for any other open calls we have on our Submissions page. You can also expect to find reviews of horror both read and watched, list features on various terrifying topics, spotlights on indie authors working in the genre, and original flash fiction pieces from our team and others.
That’s where we’re currently at, anyway. I have some ideas of where to take the site and the Night Terror Novels brand going forward, but with one baby step at a time. If you’d like, you can stay tuned, finger on the rapidly rising pulse, for future updates by following us down below, or by signing up to my Mailchimp mailing list here. I hope that you’ll consider joining us.
In the meantime, thank you so much for dropping by, and please do enjoy exploring our macabre corner of the internet.

J. D. Keown
He/Him
Joshua Daniel Keown lives on the outskirts of the North York Moors with his feral little hound of hell, Lola. Despite his proximity to Whitby and a lifetime aversion to being out in the sun, he would like it to be known that he is definitely not a vampire. Joshua has always been an avid enthusiast of the horror genre in all its forms, and he now writes ghastly, ghoulish stories of his own. His debut short story, titled Krodha, can be found in the Wild Violence anthology from Blood Rites Horror, and his debut novella, titled Maggot Brain, is coming soon, the full details for which can be found elsewhere on this site. Josh can be found prowling almost every corner of the internet in some capacity, but is most easily reached via either Instagram or Twitter under the handle, @JDKAuthor.
Keep an eye out for his debut project, titled Maggot Brain, which will be published by Night Terror Novels Publishing sometime in the near future…

Cutter Sane
He/Him
Much like his thinly-veiled namesake Sutter Cane, Cutter Sane enjoys the more abstract and bizarre elements of the horror genre. His projects are often of the experimental and genre-defying variety – or at least, they strive to be. Cutter does not frequent social media too often, but nonetheless links for his profiles can be found via the buttons below. He can also be contacted by email at cuttersaneauthor@gmail.com.
Keep an eye out for his debut project, titled Conduit, which will be published by Night Terror Novels Publishing sometime in the near future…
