“Seeing Mr. Jangles floating down there in the Stygian depths, seeing him bobbing like a buoy, an old saying creeps into my head: If it floats, itโ€™s a witch. Alongside this absurd thought, a haggard, decrepit face resurfaces from my memories for the briefest flashโ€”one I recognize instantly as that of the Gypsy Queen. This all ties back to her, and to that awful night here, twenty-eight years ago. The film reel of my life passes before my eyes; everything that happened back then, and everything that has happened since.”

Iโ€™m a little late on announcing this as the release date kind of crept up on me, but I’m very excited to announce that Iโ€™ve now placed my third short story, titled “Whisper, Whisper”, in Issue #63 of Dark Dossier, which released recently on the 23rd September and is available on Amazon right now!

As always, I’m super psyched to be able to share a little more of my flavour of horror with you all, and I’m always open to receiving feedback on my stories. I’d love to connect with you on both Instagram and Twitter @JDKAuthor, or can be contacted via our email address,, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

I want to say a huge thank you to Dark Dossier and its editor Jamie Evans for this opportunity. You can see the other names involved in the line-up in the gallery above too.

Above the gallery is a little quote from my story and below you can find a brief plot outline, to give you a little teaser of what to expect from my story. Dark Dossier, Issue #63 went live at their site, found here, on the 23rd September, so you can read it totally FREE right now! It is also available in both paperback and hardcover editions on Amazon, so if you’d like to support the magazine (and me too, of course!) please consider picking it up digitally via their website or as a physical copy. It would really make my day!

And that’s about it for today’s update! I hope you enjoy reading this issue and my story, and hereโ€™s to the next one! Cheers! ๐Ÿฅ‚

Dark Dossier, Issue #63

Whisper Whisper, by J. D. Keown

Click-clack, click-clack,

Mister Jangles is back,

Donโ€™t go down to the pier,

Or the last thing youโ€™ll hear,

Are his chains as they clink,

And heโ€™ll watch you sink,

Click-clack, click-clack, click-clack.

Vicious rumours abound when a travelling circus comes to a small Midwestern town. Four young boys bear witness to a ruthless act of vigilantism, and soon discover that even inaction has its consequences. Eventually, the ghosts of the past catch up with us all.

He can be found prowling almost every corner of the internet in some capacity.
